A day which will live in infamy...

A great man once said this sixty eight years ago. On that particular day the Naval outpost of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was bombed by the Japanese Fleet. Many lives were lost on this day. It was the first attack on American Soil Since the United States was a whole. Although none of us in this class were alive during this event, we should all take a moment today and remember the men and women who lost their lives on this day some sixty eight years ago.

With a little help from my friends

Its great having close friends. Knowing you have someone you can talk to and someone to confide in and ask anything of. Its good to have someone there for advice. One of my good friends and i randomly went to Dennys when i got off of work last night and sat and talked for four and a half hours without realizing how much time passed.

Good friends are essential in life.

The Thai Palace II of Dearborn, Michigan is by far one of my favorite restaurants in which to dine. Recommended to me by my Uncle, I decided to meet him there for lunch one day. The Thai Palace II is very visible from Michigan Avenue due to their enormous sign that towers over the other businesses in the area. I met my Uncle at the restaurant around noon and the place was filled with customers. My Uncle works for Ford Motor Company and he told me that he, along with many Ford employees, eats at the Thai Palace II for lunch every day.

My first impression of the restaurant was a welcoming, warm feeling. I was immediately greeted by the hostess with a smile and she asked my name. I told her and said I was meeting someone and she sat me with my Uncle. The atmosphere was very traditional with Thai sculptures of horses and various other animals, beautiful paintings of different parts of Thailand, and many other decorations. I know these were traditional decorations because I asked the hostess who is an immigrant from Thailand (as well as many of the workers).

I looked over the menu of the various twenty entrees, ten noodle dishes, four variations of fried rice, and ended up choosing the kad pow, which is essentially chicken fried rice with peas, carrots, and onions. With Thai food, you also pick a level of spice ranging from mild to hot. Being a first time customer, I chose medium. The price of all the meals on the menu start from around four dollars and continue upwards with the most expensive meal costing around eight dollars. After we ordered, a pitcher of water and soup was brought out to us. The soup was a cabbage soup with a chicken stock broth. I never really liked cabbage but I enjoyed the soup which was crunchy and tasted like a warm salad soup, as weird as that sounds.

After we finished our soup, our meals arrived almost instantaneously. I looked at my plate and the mountain of rice, chicken, and vegetables and was amazed at the amount of food that I received. I was very impressed by the food and how much I liked it. The food was spicy but rather than spicy like Mexican food, it was more of a hotness that started out small and seemed to build with the more I ate. I was never a huge fan of spicy food but this type of spice I enjoyed very much. I ended up finishing the mountain of food on my plate with the feeling of being full, but not overstuffed, the perfect amount of food.

I have been going to the Thai Palace II for a few weeks now and I would definitely recommend eating there. My meal only costs me slightly under six dollars so the price is perfect for a college student. The only negative thing I found about the Thai Palace II was that the booths were slightly uncomfortable and very old. I would give the Thai Palace II four and a half stars out of five.

Michigan Weather

Sucks! Its thirty degrees one day and sixty the next. I am dreading when winter rolls around. Walking campus from class to class is going to be hell. Hooray warm clothing.

Religion

Taking Philosophy 100 has really made me question a lot of things. It has made me question what i really think and believe when it comes to religion. The course has taught me to think more logically and objectively (which is hard for a lot of people). Ive read a lot of articles against the existence of God. I am now an athiest. Sorry to all you religious types but the theory of God seems too farfetched to me. Too many unknowns and loopholes. I think people have their "picture preference" of God and no matter what evidence against this is brought forward, people will not change their view.

Busy Busy

So i have been "slacking" in the blog department sadly. With everything thats been going on with my other classes, ive neglected doing two blogs a week. I am now currently doing them again, and although they may not count, i am making up for the ones i missed.

College is busy, and its one class is no excuse to neglect another. College is hard, buck up and get over it. Itll be worth it once we have those degrees with the prestigious block "M" on it.

In Rod I Trust

Say what you will about Rich Rodriguez. Say what you will about Michigan. Say what you want because this is a free country. But i personally believe in Rich Rodriguez and his coaching of the University of Michigan Football Program. Ill give him five years to build his team. Save your criticism until then. Or not.

Bottom line, Rich Rodriguez is a great coach. Give him time.

Potential Paper Topics

1. Do we apply ethnocentrism to the homeless and our efforts to help them?

2. Why is America one of the most hated countries and are its citizens at fault for this? (Does the government create this hatred because they are the ones who take action?)

3. Are Americans stereotyped based on the judgements of one foreigner?

The Oblivious Empire

I actually really enjoyed this article. I was amazed at some of the things that our government does. I wish people around the world didnt compare us to our government. We arent all arrogant, pushy obnoxious assholes like that guy from Texas in the article.

Honesty

So today it was really busy in the cafeteria and as i was checking out, the cashier gave me an extra dollar back. I didnt notice it until i was grabbing a napkin and without thinking walked back over and handed it back and explained what happened. She got the most joyful look on her face and genuinely thanked me for being an honest person. This made my day and I think I may have made hers.

Honesty is a trait that should be shared between all human beings.

Midterm

Composition class is a lot less stressful than i thought it would be. I am doing pretty well and its very manageable. The work Professor Stewart gives us is very well explained and, in my opinion, easy. She really seems to make the papers seem less stressful. I wouldnt change anything about the class.

The Beatles!

I love The Beatles. They are my favorite band of all time.

I recently went to Dearborn Music, one of my favorite places on earth, and purchased Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Club Hearts Band and have been listening to them nonstop.

I love The Beatles and anyone who else does please comment :)

Zombies!

So dont think im weird or anything, but for some reason i am utterly infatuated with zombies movies and pretty much anything to do with zombies. I recently went and saw "Zombieland" in theatres and absolutely loved it. There are also a few books out such as "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks. Ive read this book a few times and it is quite entertaining.

My friends and i occasionally talk about what we would do if a zombie apocolypse were to take place (yes, were that cool). For some reason this intrigues me and if anyone else feels like i do please comment :).

Meant to do this Thursday but i was constantly sidetracked and this is the first time ive been able to sit down and think...

Ive taken alot of pointless high school courses. Courses that have never helped me in college. Courses where i was forced to "regurgitate information". Most of the English course i took forced me to do just that. I had the fortune of taking some classes that not only taught me about the course, but also taught me how to think and formulate an educated opinion. One course in particular really made me change the way i think and start thinking critically and just overall benefited my education. The course was Humanaties taught by the great John Webster. Mr. Webster was by far the best teacher i have ever had the fortune of learning from. Humanaties was a class that focused on the history of man and what each age of man contributed to the world, such as art, architecture, poetry, and literature. It may not have been the class, but Mr. Webster taught me how to think differently and really prepared me for college. The courses that had me "regurgitate information" did teach me some useful information but that method of teaching makes it hard to retain things.

Overall, id say i retained the most usefull set of skills and knowledge from my humanaties class and Mr. John Webster.

Anyone who enjoys theatre, this concerns you.

The Stratford Shakespeare festival located in Stratford, Ontario (Canada) is a small town centered around theatre. The festival is centered around Shakespeare's plays but there are many others being performed as well. I have just returned from my fourth consecutive trip to Stratford and i find it becomes more enjoyable every year. While in Stratford i saw Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Nights dream, The Importance of Being Earnest, West Side Story, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, and Macbeth. Tickets are somewhat inexpensive and it is only about a three hour drive from Michigan. Google search Stratford Canada Shakespeare festival for info. I urge everyone to experience theatre

Procrastination, damn you. Seems like every time i must type a paper or do something i put it off for a little while. I always finish my work in time but i wonder why so many of us procrastinate. A question for the ages i guess.

Theatre is a great outlet and a underestimated activity.

After spending four days in Stratford, Canada, a small town in Ontario devoted to theatre, I wish that more people were able to experience theatre and be able to appreciate it. The greatest actors of our time are not Robert Pattinson or Daniel Radcliffe. Actors such as Brian Bedford or Sara Topham go unnoticed yet are remarkable actors.

Make an effort, culture yourselves people.

MLK & Saturday Evening Post

"Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive." - Martin Luther King Jr.

White Americans at the time would rather ignore the problem at hand and maintain order because equal treatment for everyone did not directly effect their lives. They were perfectly content living out their days with how prejudiced the world was and how unfair it was for African Americans. Every American citizen, no matter what color their skin, is entitled to the freedoms granted to them in the U.S. constitution. Which states that all men are created equal.

Saturday Evening Post

Patrick Perry wrote the article about the Four Freedoms speech poorly. He had no paragraph transitions. To me it lacked cohesion and readability.

Intro 6a

6a. In a time of war, any politician or partisan who is willing to wage war as a country on another country must be willing to fight in the war. It is unfair and ironic to support a war and send troops to a foreign country to die if the person supporting the war is not willing to do so themselves. A person cannot fully support a war and be willing to sacrifice the lives of troops if they are not willing to make sacrifices that affect them as well, such as sending a son or daughter off to fight.

Students in college should become more involved in politics. We live in a democracy and we should exercise our right to vote. We should stand above all the propaganda and choose for ourselves what we believe and develop our own viewpoints. We should choose our own party, not what a biased partisan tells us to. We cant let a demagogue take advantage of us and fill our head with LIES! Thats a little too dramatic, just think for yourself. Develop your own ideology.

You're in college now, time to grow up and exercise your rights. Learn to think for yourself. Don't follow the heard!

I brought down the sky for you but all you did was shrug.

sorry, i got sidetracked while writing this.

Anyway, what i mean by this is how you could do anything for someone and give it your all and its as if they dont appreciate it. It sucks that we live in a world where a kind gesture is translated as doing something nice to get something or have ulterior motives. Cant a nice gesture be just that?

Celebrities are overrated.

The general public gets so upset everytime a celebrity dies yet average people are dropping dead every second. If we are to mourn for every celebrity who dies then we should also mourn for all the unnamed fallen

FDR FF

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Four Freedoms exhibit really inspired me. It made me feel very patriotic and made me realize how much i love my country.

We go through life(in the U.S.) taking for granted the freedoms we enjoy. We don't realize how lucky we are by living in a country that grants us these amazing freedoms.

Far from home on a road unknown...

College is a new frontier for many students. Straying away from the handholding and simplicity of high school. College can be quite overwhelming and students must be careful not to succumb to the constant overwhelming feeling. Keep your head above the water

Listen to what im saying, not what your hearing

people tend to hear what they want and come to conclusions quickly rather than hear something in its entirety
