With a little help from my friends

Its great having close friends. Knowing you have someone you can talk to and someone to confide in and ask anything of. Its good to have someone there for advice. One of my good friends and i randomly went to Dennys when i got off of work last night and sat and talked for four and a half hours without realizing how much time passed.

Good friends are essential in life.

The Thai Palace II of Dearborn, Michigan is by far one of my favorite restaurants in which to dine. Recommended to me by my Uncle, I decided to meet him there for lunch one day. The Thai Palace II is very visible from Michigan Avenue due to their enormous sign that towers over the other businesses in the area. I met my Uncle at the restaurant around noon and the place was filled with customers. My Uncle works for Ford Motor Company and he told me that he, along with many Ford employees, eats at the Thai Palace II for lunch every day.

My first impression of the restaurant was a welcoming, warm feeling. I was immediately greeted by the hostess with a smile and she asked my name. I told her and said I was meeting someone and she sat me with my Uncle. The atmosphere was very traditional with Thai sculptures of horses and various other animals, beautiful paintings of different parts of Thailand, and many other decorations. I know these were traditional decorations because I asked the hostess who is an immigrant from Thailand (as well as many of the workers).

I looked over the menu of the various twenty entrees, ten noodle dishes, four variations of fried rice, and ended up choosing the kad pow, which is essentially chicken fried rice with peas, carrots, and onions. With Thai food, you also pick a level of spice ranging from mild to hot. Being a first time customer, I chose medium. The price of all the meals on the menu start from around four dollars and continue upwards with the most expensive meal costing around eight dollars. After we ordered, a pitcher of water and soup was brought out to us. The soup was a cabbage soup with a chicken stock broth. I never really liked cabbage but I enjoyed the soup which was crunchy and tasted like a warm salad soup, as weird as that sounds.

After we finished our soup, our meals arrived almost instantaneously. I looked at my plate and the mountain of rice, chicken, and vegetables and was amazed at the amount of food that I received. I was very impressed by the food and how much I liked it. The food was spicy but rather than spicy like Mexican food, it was more of a hotness that started out small and seemed to build with the more I ate. I was never a huge fan of spicy food but this type of spice I enjoyed very much. I ended up finishing the mountain of food on my plate with the feeling of being full, but not overstuffed, the perfect amount of food.

I have been going to the Thai Palace II for a few weeks now and I would definitely recommend eating there. My meal only costs me slightly under six dollars so the price is perfect for a college student. The only negative thing I found about the Thai Palace II was that the booths were slightly uncomfortable and very old. I would give the Thai Palace II four and a half stars out of five.

Michigan Weather

Sucks! Its thirty degrees one day and sixty the next. I am dreading when winter rolls around. Walking campus from class to class is going to be hell. Hooray warm clothing.

Religion

Taking Philosophy 100 has really made me question a lot of things. It has made me question what i really think and believe when it comes to religion. The course has taught me to think more logically and objectively (which is hard for a lot of people). Ive read a lot of articles against the existence of God. I am now an athiest. Sorry to all you religious types but the theory of God seems too farfetched to me. Too many unknowns and loopholes. I think people have their "picture preference" of God and no matter what evidence against this is brought forward, people will not change their view.

Busy Busy

So i have been "slacking" in the blog department sadly. With everything thats been going on with my other classes, ive neglected doing two blogs a week. I am now currently doing them again, and although they may not count, i am making up for the ones i missed.

College is busy, and its one class is no excuse to neglect another. College is hard, buck up and get over it. Itll be worth it once we have those degrees with the prestigious block "M" on it.

In Rod I Trust

Say what you will about Rich Rodriguez. Say what you will about Michigan. Say what you want because this is a free country. But i personally believe in Rich Rodriguez and his coaching of the University of Michigan Football Program. Ill give him five years to build his team. Save your criticism until then. Or not.

Bottom line, Rich Rodriguez is a great coach. Give him time.

Potential Paper Topics

1. Do we apply ethnocentrism to the homeless and our efforts to help them?

2. Why is America one of the most hated countries and are its citizens at fault for this? (Does the government create this hatred because they are the ones who take action?)

3. Are Americans stereotyped based on the judgements of one foreigner?

The Oblivious Empire

I actually really enjoyed this article. I was amazed at some of the things that our government does. I wish people around the world didnt compare us to our government. We arent all arrogant, pushy obnoxious assholes like that guy from Texas in the article.

Honesty

So today it was really busy in the cafeteria and as i was checking out, the cashier gave me an extra dollar back. I didnt notice it until i was grabbing a napkin and without thinking walked back over and handed it back and explained what happened. She got the most joyful look on her face and genuinely thanked me for being an honest person. This made my day and I think I may have made hers.

Honesty is a trait that should be shared between all human beings.
